First state law for solar water heaters in new homes

Hawaii became the first state to require solar water heaters in new homes. The bill was signed into law by Governor Linda Lingle, a Republican. It requires energy saving systems in homes from 2010. It prohibits the issuance of building permits for homes that do not have solar water heaters. Hawaii relies on imported fossil fuels, more than any other state, with about 90 percent of its energy from abroad, according to state data.
The new law prohibits issuing building permits for homes that do not have solar water heaters. Some exceptions are allowed, such as forest areas where there are low amounts of sunshine.
State Sen. Gary Hoose, vice-chairman of the Committee on the Environment and Energy, the measure introduced for the first time five years ago when he said a barrel of oil cost $ 40. Since then, the cost of oil has more than tripled.
“It is clear that we must take serious measures to protect Hawaii because we are so dependent on oil,” said Hoose. “I am very pleased that the governor recognizes the importance of this bill and the the public benefits that are out of it. ”
Massachusetts may become the next state to adapt such a legislation. One Boston citizen (a Boston personal injury lawyer and accidents attorney) thinks it would be in the best interest of the state.
