Oakland - How well a rewrite of an important federal law for the environment of water use is to work should be aired Friday 24 March at a workshop of the Central Valley.
According to an Oakland birth injury attorney, the Water and Power Subcommittee was to examine the impacts of the 1992 Central Valley Project Improvement Act, which uses water diverted from agriculture and earmarked for environmental protection and the creation of a fund to restore fish and wildlife.
The subcommittee was to examine whether the promises of the law have been met and the outlook for the program’s effectiveness in the light of increasing competition and the need for water in California.
“More than $ 780 million later, $ 500 million from water users and more than $ 200 million of taxpayers’ pockets, it is time for the supervision of the Congress on the law,” said the House of water and electricity under President George Radanovich, R-Fresno.
The hearing has been set at 9 pm at the Fresno Fairgrounds.
Previously known as HR429, Public Law 102-575 contains 40 separate titles providing water resources for projects in the West, according to the Bureau of Reclamation, an Interior agency that manages projects in the public interest.
